The Kindergarten Farm Food Initiative connects kindergarten students with local farmers to help students understand where food comes from. The program’s objectives are to promote local fruits and vegetables, help students and their families make healthy eating choices, and reduce the incidence of overweight and obese children.
Program components include:
- Nutrition and agriculture curriculum taught by kindergarten teachers
- Fruit and vegetable snacks delivered to schools from a local farm
- Trips to local farms
- Activities and newsletters to engage parents in the program, and to convey healthy eating concepts and skills
