Quick Answers
I have meat that has been stored in my freezer for four years. Is it still safe to eat?
If the freezer has been maintained at 0 degrees F during
the entire four year period, safety would not be a
problem. However, extensive quality changes in flavor,
texture and nutrient content would make it unacceptable.
If this meat is high in fat, it will probably be even
less acceptable than lean cuts. Also, dehydration or
freezer burn is likely. It would probably be better to
discard the meat. To prevent this problem in the future,
label packages with dates and use the "oldest" first.
